Living Life in the Moment

Responsive, Person-Led Care at Ashfield Nursing Home

Warm, purposeful activities at Ashfield Nursing Home

Responsive, person-led care where every day holds purpose, warmth, and shared moments that matter.

Life at Ashfield responds to people rather than the clock. Attention, mood, and energy change across the day, and moments of curiosity or alertness often appear without warning — moments that deserve to be used well. We organise daily life to respond immediately when they arise.

A wide range of activity resources are prepared and kept readily available throughout the home. Staff use them as soon as a resident shows interest or energy, so engagement happens at the right time for the person, not at a fixed slot on a timetable. Alongside this responsive approach, the home runs a full programme of scheduled activities each week. Structure remains important; choice always comes first.

Led with purpose and consistency

A full-time Activities Co-ordinator oversees and leads all activity provision. They design the programme, support staff, and ensure activities remain purposeful, inclusive, and aligned with assessed needs and preferences — giving consistency, quality, and oversight across the home.

Activities are person-centred and varied. Group activities take place in our welcoming communal spaces, while individual activities are offered in bedrooms for residents who prefer quiet or privacy. Every resident receives meaningful engagement regardless of ability or presentation.

Shared experiences that bring people together

Our care approach extends far beyond the walls of individual rooms, creating spaces where residents can connect deeply with staff, nature, and their loved ones:

  • Regular Entertainers: Guests visit the home to deliver shows, concerts, and interactive sessions, while gentle exercise classes promote movement, flexibility, and confidence in a safe, supportive way.
  • Therapeutic Spaces: Our garden spaces provide calm, fresh air and an inviting environment where residents can spend time outdoors as part of daily life. We actively support people to access their local community, helping them maintain familiar routines and social links.
  • A Central Role for Families: Relatives are invited, welcomed, and actively involved in activities. Shared experiences strengthen relationships, increase engagement, and support a genuine sense of family within the home.

Quality grounded in evidence and standards

Research consistently links meaningful activity with improved wellbeing, communication, and emotional stability for people living with dementia. Responsive, flexible engagement supports inclusion, dignity, and quality of life.

A home that responds

Engagement feels natural and unforced. Staff respond promptly and confidently, and residents feel valued, involved, and connected. This is a home where each day holds purpose, warmth, and shared moments that matter.

That is the standard we hold across every room, every fitting, and every detail of life at Ashfield.

This is a place built around a simple conviction: that no one is defined by their diagnosis, their history, or the worst period of their life.

Bancroft Care Centre is our flagship home, custom built with one goal: to provide exceptional specialist mental health care.

Led by our nurses and Occupational Therapist, we put each person at the centre of every decision—shaped around their needs, outcomes and unique identity.

People arrive at a difficult point. What happens next is not containment, but a multidisciplinary team who see the whole person: their strengths, culture, goals and the life they want to return to.
