Ashfield Nursing Home provides nurse-led dementia and mental health care for older adults, in a warm, welcoming environment where the focus is on comfort, stability and dignity. Our “Living Life in the Moment” approach shapes each day around the person, so that life is full, purposeful and genuinely their own.
Care at Ashfield is nurse-led and person-centred, with qualified nurses and a skilled care team on hand around the clock. Every resident has an individual care plan and risk assessment, developed with them and the people who know them best, and kept under review as needs change. Medication, health monitoring and record-keeping are managed carefully and in line with current standards, so that clinical and nursing needs are met within a calm, homely setting.
Day-to-day life responds to people rather than the clock. Attention, mood and energy change through the day, and moments of curiosity or alertness can appear without warning. Rather than waiting for a fixed slot on a timetable, our team keeps a wide range of activity resources ready throughout the home and uses them as soon as a resident shows interest — so engagement happens at the right time for the person. Alongside this responsive approach, the home runs a full programme of scheduled activities each week: structure remains important, but choice always comes first.
A dedicated Activities Co-ordinator leads this work, ensuring activity is purposeful, inclusive and matched to each person’s assessed needs and preferences. Group activities take place in our welcoming communal spaces, while individual activities are offered in bedrooms for residents who prefer quiet or privacy, so that everyone receives meaningful engagement, whatever their ability.
Life at Ashfield is sociable and outward-looking. Regular entertainers visit to deliver shows and interactive sessions, and gentle exercise classes support movement, flexibility and confidence. Our garden spaces offer calm, fresh air and a therapeutic place to spend time outdoors, and we actively support people to stay connected to their local community and familiar routines. Families play a central role — relatives are invited, welcomed and actively involved, building a genuine sense of family within the home.
This responsive, person-centred way of working is grounded in evidence: research consistently links meaningful activity with improved wellbeing, communication and emotional stability for people living with dementia. Above all, care is delivered with kindness, so that residents feel valued, involved and safe.
Ashfield Nursing Home provides nursing and personal care for older adults, and specialises in supporting people living with dementia and with mental health conditions. We also offer respite care for those who need shorter-term support. The home is registered with the Care Quality Commission to care for up to 40 people.
We understand that every person is an individual, with their own history, preferences and strengths. Our aim is to see the whole person — not a diagnosis — and to support each resident to live as fully, safely and independently as possible, with dignity and choice at the heart of their care.

Ashfield offers 40 single bedrooms across two floors, each providing privacy, comfort and space for personal belongings and mobility equipment. Rooms can be personalised to reflect familiar routines and memories, helping residents feel settled. Ongoing refurbishment has introduced new flooring, furniture and bathroom fixtures, creating calmer, more supportive environments. Every bedroom is designed to promote comfort, safety and independence, supporting daily living in a homely setting.
Meals are prepared fresh each day using quality seasonal produce, cooked on site by our kitchen team. Menus are shaped around individual preferences, dietary needs and care plans, ensuring both enjoyment and nutrition. We support weight management, diabetes care and texture modified diets in line with IDDSI standards. Mealtimes are relaxed and unrushed, with families welcome to join. Food feels familiar, comforting and an important part of daily life.
Activities at Ashfield respond to each person rather than the clock. A full time Activities Co-ordinator leads a varied weekly programme alongside spontaneous one-to-one engagement. Residents enjoy group sessions, gentle exercise, visiting entertainers and time outdoors. Individual activities are offered for those who prefer calm or privacy. Families are encouraged to join in, strengthening relationships and creating shared moments that support wellbeing, inclusion and connection.
