Bancroft Care Centre

Purpose-built for recovery

Calm therapeutic spaces supporting complex mental health care, combining safety, therapy and dignity to help people move forward.

The ASHA environment

The ASHA Environment reflects everything we have learned from years of complex care delivery. Bancroft is purpose-built with safety at its core, allowing people to live in a calm, spacious setting that feels supportive rather than institutional. Thoughtful layout, discreet monitoring and therapeutic design reduce restrictive practice while increasing independence. Every detail supports stability, dignity and recovery, from wide communal areas to private en-suite rooms. This environment enables our multidisciplinary team to deliver hospital-equivalent care while helping residents feel secure, respected and at home.

State-of-the-art facilities

Modern, purpose-built facilities support safety, therapy and independence, creating calm spaces where residents can recover, learn and progress.

Spacious en-suite rooms

Each resident has their own en-suite bedroom, designed to offer privacy, comfort and dignity. Rooms are anti-ligature and fitted with robust furnishings while still feeling warm and personal. Space allows for mobility aids where needed, and residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with familiar belongings. These private spaces provide quiet retreat alongside independence, helping individuals feel settled and secure within a supportive therapeutic environment.

Therapeutic care spaces

Bancroft includes purpose-designed therapeutic areas that support recovery, learning and emotional regulation. Calm lounges, quiet rooms and activity spaces allow residents to engage at their own pace. A training kitchen and independent living facilities help rebuild practical skills such as cooking and budgeting. These spaces support occupational therapy and psychology interventions while encouraging confidence, routine and meaningful participation in daily life.

Advanced safety design

Safety is built into every aspect of Bancroft’s design. Anti-ligature fittings, robust materials and discreet CCTV create a secure environment without feeling restrictive. Wide corridors, clear observation lines and zoning reduce escalation and support Positive Behavioural Support. This thoughtful design allows staff to maintain safety while promoting freedom of movement, reducing constant observation and helping residents experience a calmer, less institutional setting.

Shared living spaces

Spacious shared areas encourage connection while respecting individual needs. Residents can spend time in open lounges, quieter rooms or outdoor spaces depending on preference. These areas support social interaction, group activities and relaxed daily routines. By offering choice and flexibility, Bancroft helps people feel part of a community while still having access to private, low-stimulation spaces when needed.

Residents benefit from integrated clinical support delivered by a skilled multidisciplinary team. Care is coordinated on-site to provide consistency and continuity.

Your questions answered

Choosing the right care setting for complex mental health needs is a big decision. These answers explain how Bancroft works, our environment, and the support we provide. From safety and therapy to daily living and recovery pathways, we aim to offer clear, practical information to help you understand our approach and next steps.

How is Bancroft different from hospital?

Bancroft delivers hospital-equivalent care in a community setting. Residents receive 24-hour nursing alongside psychology, occupational therapy and psychiatric input, but in a calm, non-institutional environment. Purpose-built spaces reduce restrictive practice while supporting safety and recovery. This approach allows people to stabilise clinically while rebuilding daily living skills, helping them move toward greater independence without the limitations of long term inpatient care.

Bancroft is designed with safety embedded throughout. Anti-ligature fittings, robust furnishings, discreet CCTV and clear observation lines help reduce risk while maintaining dignity. Layout zoning supports Positive Behavioural Support and lowers escalation. These features allow staff to provide effective care without constant observation, creating a secure yet respectful environment where residents can move freely and feel at ease.

Residents follow one of two pathways depending on need. Some receive long-term clinical support for complex conditions, while others enter recovery and reablement pathways focused on rebuilding skills and independence. Progress is guided by the multidisciplinary team through structured observation, therapy and practical activities such as cooking, budgeting and community access. Each pathway is personalised, supporting safe transition to less restrictive environments when appropriate.

Care planning is led by Bancroft’s multidisciplinary team, including mental health nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists and psychiatric input. External professionals, social workers and commissioners also contribute. Families are kept informed and involved throughout. This collaborative approach ensures decisions are clinically informed, person-centred and aligned with longer-term goals, supporting continuity and positive outcomes.
